UK Speech Conference

The UK Speech annual conference is a meeting of the UK and Irish speech technology research community. Its aim is to provide a forum where young researchers in the area of speech and language technology can meet other researchers, present their work, obtain feedback, and form networks.

2024 – University of Cambridge

The eleventh UK Speech conference will be held at the University of Cambridge on the 1st and 2nd of July 2024. More detail to follow soon! 

2023 – University of Sheffield

The tenth UK Speech conference will be held at the University of Sheffield on the 14th and 15th of June 2023.

2022 – University of Edinburgh

The ninth UK Speech conference was held at the University of Edinburgh on the 5th and 6th of September 2022 .

2019 – University of Birmingham

The eighth UK Speech conference was held at the University of Birmingham on the 24th and 25th of June 2019.

2018 – Trinity College Dublin

The seventh UK Speech conference was held in Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, on the 25th and 26th of June 2018.

2017 – University of Cambridge

The sixth UK Speech conference took place at the University of Cambridge on the 11th and 12th of September 2017.

2016 – The University of Sheffield 

The fifth UK Speech conference took place at the University of Sheffield on the 20th and 21st of June 2016.

2015 – University of East Anglia

The fourth UK Speech conference took place in Norwich at the University of East Anglia on the 2nd and 3rd of July 2015.

2013 – University of Cambridge

2012 – University of Birmingham

The first UK Speech conference was held at the University Of Birmingham on the 17th and 18th December 2012 and attracted 80 delegates. There were 50 posters from individual researchers. Thanks to Arnab Goshal for organising the programme and to Martin Russell for local arrangements.

Young Speech Researchers Meetings

In the past, UK Speech organised one-day meetings, workshops and courses for researchers working in speech science & technology and allied areas. 

2008 – University of Surrey in Guilford

The Young Researchers meeting in 2008 was organized by the Centre for Vision, Speech and Signal Processing at Surrey.

2007 – University College London

The Young Researchers meeting in 2007 was held at the University College London on the 12th April 2017.

2005 – University College London

The Young Researchers meeting in 2008 was held at the University College London with 6 talks and 22 posters.

2004 – University College London

The UK Speech one-day meeting for young speech researchers was held at UCL on 22 April 2004. The topic of the meeting was “What industry wants from speech research” and there were keynote talks from industrialists working in the speech processing industry.

2003 – University College London

The UK Speech one-day meeting for young speech researchers was held at UCL on 24 April 2003. The conference had 6 oral presentations and 22 posters from many aspects of speech research, analysis and processing.
